I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's in Roswell, NM.
I'm walking for my grandmother, Mama, her battle against Alzheimer's is an inspiration to me and my family, but it isn't easy. My grandfather took early retirement to be her caregiver. For them, dementia is a daily fight. She has struggled with multiple medical issues related to the disease, but that didn't stop her from attending my wedding in 2015, congratulating me on my election to office, or telling me stories about her family that lived in New Mexico when I told her I was moving to Roswell.
The first survivor is out there, right now, we just need to keep fighting every day, just like my Mama.
