Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association® to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
My aunt Tibby has always been a very important part of my life. Despite living thousands of miles away she has always remained close and has been there for the most important events in my life, making them much more fun. She came to help us when both babies were born and took great care of us. She has been there for everything from multiple graduations, purchasing my wedding dress, to sending books to me and my ex to help my children though our divorce. It has been like having an extra, more entertaining, mom - and friend.
It crushed us to learn that her memory issues were not just everyday forgetfulness. Tibby was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a few years ago. I have been incredibly lucky to get to visit her in Arizona more often than usual. (thank you coworkers) She is still absolutely amazing but there are changes and those are hard to watch. We (to include Tibby) know there are more changes to come. I treasure each trip I get to spend time with her and her amazing family.
My kids and I are doing the Alzheimer’s walk in September. If you have any interest in walking with us that would be great. If you feel you can donate (any amount) that too would be amazing. Let’s be honest, by donating, we are investing in our future. Some of us will absolutely get this horrible disease.
Thank you for helping advance Alzheimer's support, care and research.
