Can you imagine how it would feel if you looked at a loved one and did not recognize who they were? Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Believe it or not, someone develops Alzheimer’s every 65 seconds Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease. I'm walking to help reclaim the future for millions. By participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's(R), I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer's research, care and support in memory of my amazing Grandma Betty Olivier.
Let me tell you a little bit about my Grandma Betty!!
My Gram was a loving woman that lived for her faith and her family. She was the middle child of 3 and lived with her parents as well as grandparents whom her mother would care for while her father worked. She grew up learning how to care for other around her. She was always caring for family that needed the extra care and always visited with those she knew that needed that little extra cheering up. She always welcomed you with open arms and would love you unconditional! Her home always had an open door for those that needed it. She was never Mrs. Olivier. You had to call her either Mom, Grandma or Aunt Betty, no if, ands or buts about it. She was always a wealth of knowledge, and gave you her advice to the best of her ability, whether you wanted to hear it or not! You could always count on her warm and welcoming smile and she always made you smile in return. Gram had just as funny of a side as she did a serious side. Once in a while she would say, "I'm Grandma B...bzzzz". That is what inspired our team name. I am walking for her as well as her sister Ruth Watts, her sister-in-law Helena Perkins and many other friends and family members that have been affected by this terrible disease.
That's why I need your help!! I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
