Due to COVID-19, the walk will not be
A large group of walkers following a specific route. It will consist of small groups of families and friends walking in various areas of their local city or town. We will be joining together virtually during walk.
I will be walking with our family and friends in honor of my wife Marsha. This will be the 6'th year our Team, Mind Over Matter, has participated and raised over $50,000 in the last 5 years supporting the Alzheimer's Association. We have achieved this thru individual donations and largely special fundraising events.
Our involvement with the Walk began when Marsha was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 6 years ago. The initial signs of memory issues began 2 years prior. Think I mentioned last year that there is no road map on this journey. The main objective is to keep your loved one safe and healthy. This is particularly important as individuals move from home to an assisted or long term facility.
Marsha transitioned to a different nursing home August of last year. The previous facility closed. The Initial transition went fairly well. Then, COViD-19 hit 6 months later prohibiting visitation. Our concern was that Marsha is nonverbal and unable to communicate. Without visitation, we were completely relying on the nursing home to care for her properly and keep her safe. We were notified mid May that she was hospitalized and treated for several days. Our children and I decided to bring her home upon being discharged given the risk of contracting the virus.
Marsha has been home for approximately
3 months receiving Palliative Hospice Care with CNA coverage, 7 days a week. She is staying healthy however the disease slowing progresses.
There are over 5 million people with this disease and over 16 million caregivers caring for these people. Please join me In supporting the Alzheimer's Association! Your donation will help the advancement of research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, cure.
Thank you for joining the movement!
