On Saturday October 3, 2020 our family and “village” will be taking part in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in our own virtual location. We walk in honor of my best friend, my Mom Marsha. The journey and life as an Alzheimer’s patient, loved one, and caretaker is much like being on a rollercoaster with ups and downs. This year we surely took some loops and dips, but all that matters in the present is Mom is home, safe, loved, and getting the most incredible care from caretakers that have become family. Mom is still Marsha, her facial expressions of wide eyes and side glances are real and appropriate. Her kisses and reaching out for a hand or hug is always just when they are needed. This disease is NOT easy. This year more than ever I let my mom know that we will be her clear, loud, strong voice to raise awareness about this disease. The resources, proper care and safety, and support that is needed comes from research studies and financial means. Through walking andraising money for the Alzheimer’s Association a piece of my heart knows I’m doing my part to help.
I could keep going on about all the amazing things I wish we could relive and experience again with Mom, but I’ll stop. I am stopping, wiping my tears away, and putting my brave face on as I know my Mom would want. Alzheimer’s has altered life so much for my family, but one thing that it won’t change is our determination to find a cure. My reason and purpose for walking grows stronger each year. We are blessed to have friends and family that are so generous with the love and support they give Mom and all of us. Any contribution to our walk this year would mean so much to me. We won’t back down from the fight to END ALZ!
The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you. Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately find a cure!
Thank you for helping advance Alzheimer's support, care and research.
