My mom Louise( Lucy) was 84 when she was diagnosed with Late Onset Alzheimer's Disease. It was a rough time for me and my brother. My brother cared for her at home as long as he was able to. Once she had a stroke, we had to move her into Memory Care at The Springs where she was well taken care of. She has been gone for 15 months now. Although there were 4 years of difficult times and much sadness and depression on my part, there were good times too. In some ways I became closer to my mom, she was very loving and gentle (except when she had a moment every once in awhile lol) She was active in all the activities at The Springs, having a great time. The residents and staff loved her and even other visitors loved her. Everyone always loved mom. For several months new medications used for Alz were given to her by her doctor and she regained some of her memory which was thrilling. I walk in the hope that researchers will continue to help all those suffering from Alzheimer's until this disease gets smaller and smaller and one day Alzheimer's disease will be a thing of the past.
