Dessert First is not just a fun name but a life style that my grandmother Ruth instilled in me. My grandmother would have a sandwich in one hand and a cookie in the other. If you would have asked her why she would say "you have to eat dessert first because you might not be hungry at the end of your meal". This means so much to me. She taught me to live my life to the fullest, to not take anything for granted and find pleasure even in the little things.
Grandma Ruth was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2002. She passed in 2008 but her legacy lives on. I also walk to honor my Grandmother Belva. She passed in 2020 from Covid-19. She was in a care facility for Alzheimer's disease.
I walk to honor my grandmothers and to help find a cure. I want to find a cure for my mother so she does not have to suffer from this disease in the future. I walk for my husband and kids so that they do not become a care giver in the future if I am diagnosed.
