Our team is named The Thing with Feathers because of the human capacity for hope. Emily Dickinson redefined hope as the thing with feathers. It stays within us and sings continuously, no matter what. Only the most severe storm can damage hope, and it asks nothing of us in return. It costs nothing to be hopeful. Dickinson asked her readers not to take hope for granted, but rather to see it as a valued, tangible, intrinsic part of ourselves, and of humanity. We walk for hope.
