Fourteen years of walking and I still honor the woman who taught me about being the person I became: my grandma. Now that I have granddaughters of my own, I understand so much more, and I wish she was here for me to share with her what I've learned about the difference between presents and presence in a grandchild's life, having fun no matter the aches and pains, laughing much and giving plenty of hugs and kisses! She fought a good fight, she lost, and I hope not to follow in her footsteps so I walk.
I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
