Troops for Donny is walking to honor the life of Donny O'Barr, my dad; and the courageous, loving man he was. My dad served 33 years in the US Army National Guard before being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's at the age of 61 which is why I wanted my team to signify the one thing he was truly passionate about; his service in the military. With being so young the doctors said that he was already at the mild to severe stage, that his brain can no longer process short term to long term memory. Which proved that within 7 years he could no longer read or write, then came forgetting simple things of tying shoes and ultimately forgetting how to eat/drink and eventually his body shutting down. But if you were to ask him anything to do with the time he served his country, he could remember a story right off the bat. My dad lived his life to the fullest to the very last breath. He worked hard for what he had and should be honored the same. So that is why this year I am participating in the Walk in order to help raise awareness and the efforts of researching to find a cure! Support our team for the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's(R), the world's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research.
