My Grandma Kay was one of the most sensational and opinionated people I've ever known. When she was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, I had no idea what Dementia truly was, or what our family was in for.
Alzheimer's is a disease that effects almost all of our loved ones, yet - how many of us of us actually know anything about it until we're effected by it personally? Nearly 9 in 10 primary care physicians (87%) expect to see an increase in people living with Dementia during the next five years, but half (50%) say the medical profession is not prepared to meet this demand. There are currently more than 5 million Americans 65+ living with Alzheimer’s — a number expected to nearly triple by 2050. (Alzheimer’s Association 2020 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures Report)
Alzheimer's and Dementia aren't just the result of "getting old". We need to value our elderly brothers and sisters, to ensure that they don't get lost in the shuffle. With more research and attention, we CAN find a way to change the course of this disease.
I totally understand that right now is a strenuous time for many of us, but whatever you can donate is so greatly appreciated. Your donation will help advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association, so that high-quality dementia care is available for all who need it. Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's!
