My life changed forever when my mom was diagnosed with Dementia, Alzheimer's . She was the strongest woman I know. She could lift mountains and basically walk on water. She installed these strengths in my son Ian and I am so very grateful. I knew her fears and her joys more than anyone in this world. Watching the person that you admire and love go farther away everyday is the cruelest thing that anyone can watch. She honestly was my best friend.
At work I met this man , Gabe he spoke to me about his wife Carol and her battle with Alzheimer's and I saw myself in his eyes and his words. Gabe married his High School sweetheart Carol and never expected he would be going thru this for the last 10 years. Carol struggles with this disease everyday but so does Gabe. He watched his wife slip away from him and it is the hardest thing for him to watch.
Because I know exactly what he is going thru I have decided not only to walk for my mom De Harter but also for Carol Gonzales. I don't want another daughter, son, husband, wife of friend to have to deal with his horrible disease.
Thanks you for reading my story and thank you for your support of my mom and Carol Gonzales.
