Unfortunately this year we are honoring my mom as she lost her 7 year battle with Alzheimer’s this past fall. She fought long and hard yet always with a smile and her strong resilient attitude. The days and months were getting harder and harder as memories kept fading and her health began to worsen. I am so glad I was able to move her to Michigan with me 3 years ago where she was able to enjoy life with her only child and son-in-law and beloved grandchildren. The one thing we always made sure of going through all of this was that my mom was happy. In the beginning when she was able to leave the memory care facility....She went everywhere with us. She went to my husband’s football games, she went to family gatherings, birthday parties, she went to holiday parties, she was always at our house. My kids got to be around grandma all the time ... they were always coloring pictures to hang in her room...bringing her ice cream ... they just loved being around grandma. She was always smiling and she was happy to be with her family and she truly lived in the moment..... and I think that is all I could’ve asked for in her condition. She loved her oldies music and you could always find her moving her feet and bopping her head to the music.
My mom had such a big heart and was always willing to help...especially with her animals!! She could be the life of a party and you could find her dancing away with an Old Fashion in hand. Yet she could also be the best friend who was always there to listen and give the best advice. I will miss my mom greatly and wish she didn’t have to be taken so soon from this world. But I know she is enjoying life with my dad up there in heaven and watching down on us all. Please help end this disease by making a donation...big or small anything would help!
I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
