Gerald "Jerry" Dymond, was the kindest and most giving person that I have ever met in my entire life. He was a big believer in education and research and would always help his loved ones on their journey to achieve their higher education dreams. During my childhood, My grandfather was always my safe place during turbulant times, I always knew I could call him if I needed absolutely anything and he would come help me right away.
My grandfather and I would often go on walks, go to the 'purple' park and talk about new things I was learning in school. We would also watch chitty chitty bang bang and sing together.
We also had matching 'Bum" sweatshirts and I made sure I always wore mine when I went over to their house.
When Grandpa Jerry got sick, I had the unique opportunity to spend the last week of his life by his side, something that I will never forget. For years he had forgotten who I was and that was horribly hard to comprehend. But that last week, he remembered who I was and wouldn't let go of my hand, and I didn't let go of his. I will cherish that time with him and I wish I had more.
This year will be my 8th walk. Even though these times are tough, Grandpa would have kept pushing on like he always did, and I know if he was here he would be with me, and In a way he is.
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
