It is that time of the year again when OSS steps up to support the Alzheimer’s Foundation. This has become a tradition at OSS.
Michael Tollan, and his wife Holli, have been the driving force behind OSS’s efforts as their close friend of 30 years, Nancy Johnson, who is also a fellow PT, was diagnosed in 2013 with Early Onset Alzheimer’s.
Nancy and her husband Joel opened Lakeland Sports and Spine Physical Therapy in 2003 with locations also in Renton and Auburn. She directed the clinics until the effects of Alzheimer’s forced her to retire in December 2014.
Alzheimer's Disease is the third leading cause of death in Washington state, and affects over 100,000 individuals. Alzheimer's generally affects people over the age of 65 but about 5% are afflicted with Early Onset Alzheimer's, with symptoms starting before age 65. Currently, there is no cure for Alzheimer's, nor any effective treatment. The disease is fatal. More than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050.
We, as an organization, have pledged to be part of the fight and are ready, once again, to support and honor Nancy.
