I am surrounded by inspiring, caring professionals and volunteers who support people every day as they face this difficult journey.
Before I began working for the Alzheimer's Association, I didn't know that in Washington state, over 110,000 people are currently living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, and that these people are cared for by over 341,000 (mostly unpaid!) family caregivers. I also didn't know that these numbers are expected to rise by more than 27% over the next 7 years.
The Washington State Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association provides one-to-one counseling, care consultations, support groups, a 24/7 phone helpline, programs and education at no cost, to support those affected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementia in our state. On a national level, the Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support, and research.
The Walk to End Alzheimer's will take place in 16 locations state-wide this fall, and together we will raise more than $2M so that this important work can continue in our region.
I've chosen to be a team captain for Tacoma's Walk to End Alzheimer's on Sunday 9/27. In my home town, I hope that friends will join my Walk team, "Tacoma's Walk Stars"! And of course, I hope that whether you can walk with me or not, that you can support this effort with a donation.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's!
(And, btw, the Wilson family has two Walk teams in the Seattle Walk on 9/28: John is captain for "Johnny's Walkers;" and Bryce is captain for "Team Nuun"! Feel free to support one of us, or all of us!).
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
