This year is especially significant for us as we come up on the two-year anniversary of our father's passing and the unfortunate passing of our dad's brother Luis Resende. He too was stricken with Alzheimer's. On August 23, 2013 our dad left his life on earth to begin his life in heaven. And this year, we will walk in his memory and our uncle's memory. Our dad was one of the strongest man we've ever known. Others have described him as a simple man who loved his family. That is so true. He left his native home in Rabo de Peixe, Sao Miguel, an island off of Portugal, to start a new life with our mother Laura and his seven children. When he died, he not only left a loving wife, he left nine children and their spouses and 28 grandchildren and one more on the way.
Our dad loved life. He loved gardening and had a passion for making wine. He loved his church and was a dedicated parishoner. More than anything, he loved to smile. That's why we continue to walk, to help others who have been diagnosed with this horrific disease to smile while they live life to the fullest, like our dad did.
