Where Do We Go From Here?
The world feels like it has turned upside down. We are facing a world pandemic and our Black brothers and sisters are literally fighting for their lives. People are losing their jobs and we inhale and exhale stress on a daily basis. How can I possibly ask someone to support a cause that has meant the world to me for half of my life when things are crumbling? I have avoided updating my personal page since the pandemic hit because I was hopeful (and possibly naive) that things would shortly return to normal. However, even with states beginning to open again it's clear to me that we may be in the process of a "new normal" & my fear is that those who need us most will be forgotten about along the way.
The issues that are nation is facing are extremely important but Alzheimer's did not disappear overnight. Alzheimer's (and so many other diseases) have been ignored since the pandemic has hit and care, for those with Alzheimer's, at times hasn't been considered essential. It's been a nightmare for families who are struggling to find support. Nurses and doctors are working around the clock trying to protect the most vulnerable. Loved ones haven't seen their family and friends who live in assisted living & long-term care facilities to prevent spreading the disease. It's absolutely heartbreaking and it can leave you filling helpless.
I realize that so many are facing unemployment or have received a pay cut leaving no money to spare. I would never want anyone to feel guilty for not being able to contribute especially when this cause may be important to you. Please take care of you and your families during this time and if you're able to donate it is deeply appreciated.
Thank you so much for joining me in the fight to #ENDALZ whether through spirit or financially! Sending so much love to all of you!
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
