This year, Walk to End Alzheimer's® is everywhere - on every sidewalk, track and trail. Instead of gathering for one large, in-person event, we'll be walking together... apart. And I am pledging to walk the traditional 5K of the event every day through October!
I'm walking together with Prestige Care Inc at Vancouver, WA in honor of our residents currently struggling with Alzheimer's and dementia, and in loving memory of my papa, Ross "The Maverick" Payne, who died of Alzheimer's four years ago at the age of 78.
During his lifetime, he was a 'jack of all trades' - from working as a jeweler, on a pipeline construction team, at a rice dryer, to a salesman - but it was as a disc jockey, when he met many of the country music greats and was dubbed "The Maverick", where he found the greatest satisfaction.
My grandpa always told me "It's not the miles you travel but the stops you make", a phrase that epitomized how he lived his life. I endeavor to do the same - measuring not the distance, but the moments and memories.
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
