Dear Friends and Family,
As you all know my father passed away in 2016 and Sherry's mom passed away in 2019 both diagnosis with Alzheimers. We watched both of them go through some tough years as they progressed through the different cycles of this disease. We as a family were grateful to have the time and resources to make their final years as comfortable as possible. We also are thankful for the ALZ association for their help and support during this time. We miss them dearly and that is why we work so hard to find a cure for this the #6 leading cause of death in the USA.
This is my 5th year on the board and currently the Vice-President of the Southwest Ohio chapter, and once again the chairman of the Greater Cincinnati Tri-State WALK to END ALZ. The Covid-19 has hit those battling with dementia and their caregivers hard, as you can imagine. The Southwest Ohio chapter has moved all of its programs to virtual, and thankfully continue to serve those who need us 24/7. All of our events have been on hold or canceled due to the Covid situation. The impact at the National level has been significant - - a $50M loss for the month of June alone. We have reduced our workforce by 35% and others have taken a pay cut so that we can continue to offer all of our services while not reducing our strategic research funding. We need everyones help more than ever.
The ALZ association WALK to End Alzheimers is moving forward in 2020, while ensuring the safety of our participants, volunteers and staff. While we can't come together as a large group, on our local Walk day in 2020 participants will walk as individuals, families and teams, knowing that others fighting to end Alzheimer's are doing the same. The WALK will be everywhere.
The dollars we raise this year are as critical as ever to advancing the care, support and cure for this disease and all dementia.
I hope you can find it to support our team or form your own team. We wish you all the best.
Bob and Sherry
