PLEASE HELP THE BRAIN WAVES TEAM 'WIPE OUT' ALZHEIMERS!
In August of 2019 I lost my father after a very long and very difficult journey with Alzheimer's disease. What he went through was simply heartbreaking. I had no idea of the true impact of Alzheimer's until my family experienced it firsthand.
For the past several years while my dad was alive, I organized a walk team called Brain Waves that is sponsored by my company, Hello Hire Talent Solutions. I'm proud that we've been one of the top fundraising teams for the Butler, Warren, Clinton counties walk the past several years.
The reason I walked and raised as much money as I could each year was to honor my dad, but also because it was one of the only ways I felt like I could do something to help. There's no cure for Alzheimer's, there's very little in the way of treatments, and family members often feel like there's just not much they can do for their loved one. I know I felt that way, but the walk was something tangible I could do, even if it was just symbolic, as it certainly wasn't going to impact my dad's treatment or outcome.
This year the walk is going to be a very different experience for me, as I was asked to Co-chair the Butler, Warren, Clinton Counties Walk to End Alzheimer's. I'm really excited about the opportunity and was very honored to be asked. I feel like it's a new way, a more significant way, that I can honor my dad and all that he went through.
There is another way this year's walk is going to be very different in that THE WALK WILL BE EVERYWHERE! Due to Covid-19 it is not possible for us to have a large group event as originally planned, so we are bringing the walk out into communities where individuals and teams will complete the walk on their own. The walk is NOT canceled! The walk has NOT gone virtual! The walk and the spirit of the walk will proceed proudly forward.
Although Covid-19 has stopped many things, it has not stopped the vital work of the Alzheimer's Association. They continue providing tremendous services and assistance to thousands of families impacted by this terrible disease -- one with no cure and very little in the way of therapies or treatments.
Despite all the challenges in the world today, I sincerely hope that many of you will once again support our mighty BRAIN WAVES team and the Butler, Warren and Clinton Counties Walk to End Alzheimer's-- not just for me and my family, but for all the families who are facing this very difficult and debilitating diagnosis. Be a part of helping us find the very first Alzheimer's survivor - what a victory that will be.
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
