Alzheimer's is a real bummer* of a disease and The Alzheimer's Association offers really great programs and support for those with it and their families. They also help fund research for a cure and/ treatment, which there is currently not and the drugs,while helpful, mostly just minimize symptoms.
Alzheimer's isn't just old people getting old. It's watching the smartest person you know struggle to find basic words. It's mustering every ounce of patience you have to explain something to someone for the 15th time in a row. It's constantly mourning little losses but reminding yourself to be so thankful for what you still have and fearing what the next loss will be. It sucks. .... and that's just from the loved one's perspective. I can't imagine how frustrating and scary it must be to actually suffer from this.
