My personal connection to this disease is the driving force for my fundraising efforts and deep desire to find a cure. I've seen first hand both personally and professionally how Alzheimer's can touch a family, and I'm dedicated to continuing this fight until we find the first survivor. I hope you'll join me by making a donation or joining my walk team today!
Your donation is a valuable resource in the fight against Alzheimer's. Money raised from this page and event will go towards care and support programs for both individuals living with the disease and their caregivers. Donations also help to fund research towards finding a cure.
Why I walk
My Grandmother was one of the strongest people I know, she worked hard, loved with all she had in her, and always put everyone before herself. She had a smile that was genuine, so cheerful that even her eyes would smile.
Alzheimer's made my grandmother frequently forget words and misplace her glasses.
It made her mistakenly microwave food with the aluminum foil intact, and often took her on strolls away from home unannounced.
It made her meticulously unwrap all her Christmas presents, and fold every article of clothing she encountered in a way that was different from the last.
It made her even try and wear layer upon layer of clothing no matter the season, and caused her to arrive at the doctors office equipped with her paper that reminded her of her date of birth.
Alzheimer's made her forget my name, and then who I was.
Although Alzheimer's may have taken my grandmother's smile, her patience, and her work ethic, it never took away her love from us. Her memory and influence lives on in each and every one of her family members.
I pray that one day other families will never have to go through the heartache of losing someone not once, but twice. I hope that millions of caregivers and individuals dealing with this illness will find relief. Most importantly I'm optimistic that given support, faith, and perseverance, we all can work to find a cure.
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
