I'm walking again this year (my 6th year) in honor of my mom, who was diagnosed 7 years ago with this HORRIBLE disease. As is the case with each passing year, this last year has brought even bigger changes than the previous one, with still MANY more to come. Not one day is the same for her (or my dad, her 24/7 caregiver). EVERY SINGLE DAY is a struggle for them both. It has robbed her (and us) of so many memories and simple daily life functions that we all take for granted. It's SO very sad to have to mourn someone who is still with you.
My parents have been married for 58 years and it's so unfair that this is how they get to spend their "Golden Years". It makes me very angry that this has happened to them/us.
It's clearly too late for my mom, however my hopes are that by walking and fundraising annually, I can help future families not have to experience this awful disease. I have never been more passionate about a cause then I am for this one and I will fight for the cause for as long as I am able.
