My journey with Alzheimer's started a few years back when my grandma, or as we called her Nannie, started forgetting things. She battled Vascular Dementia for several years that ultimately took away any short term memories and her ability to speak words. Most of the 2016 year, our family dedicated every Saturday (along with free week nights) to visit with her, as she loved to listen to our stories. Although she didn't provide any insight verbally, we know deep down in our hearts that she knew exactly what was going on and enjoyed our laughter. The disease did not take the love she provided to our family. Nannie passed away early September of 2016. A few weeks later, I became active in the Young Ambassador's of the Alzheimer's Association here in St. Louis to lead the way to the first survivor. Having been a part of the organization over the years, I've been amazed by the vast amount of people the disease has personally affected. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease. Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease.
