My Mom (Mary Lou) suffers from this horrible disease. She raised us (eight) kids with a ton of love and a great sense of humor. This disease has robbed her of everything she’s ever known (literally). It's ridiculously hard on my Dad and the family to watch the progression of this disease on our sweet Mom. She has been living in a Memory Care facility for a couple years now. It is getting very hard to understand how she is doing since the Covid pandemic has prevented us from seeing her for 5 months now. We Skype with her a couple of times a week but that is mostly confusing for her. My Dad is living in an Independent Living facility and used to travel daily to spend time with his wife of 68 years. He Skypes with her every chance he gets and tries to glean information from her caregivers. I know our situation is not that unique and SO many families are dealing with this horrible situation which this disease causes. I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please consider making a donation (no matter how small) to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
