On October 20, 2017, I lost my beautiful Irish mom to Alzheimer's disease at the young age of just 73. Alzheimer's robbed my mom of her memories, her joy, and a large part of her vibrant personality. She fiercely battled this disease for 10 years. The last four years of her life were spent in a constant state of confusion and anxiety. I will never forget the day that I realized she no longer knew who I was. My mother was such a loving mom and grandmother; she was the life of every party; she was a loyal friend; and she was incredibly generous! I can't begin to explain how much I miss her. I promised my mom that I would do everything I could to change the course for people living with Alzheimer's and those yet to be diagnosed. I hope you will help me achieve that promise!
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. In the US, someone develops Alzheimer's disease every 65 seconds! Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please walk with me by joining my team, Rita's Shamrocks, or make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
