My beautiful mom passed away on August 12, 2018 from the illness, but very few days go by without some reminder of what she went through during her battle...of what the illness systematically and relentlessly took from her right in front of our eyes. No treatment, no cure.
Alzheimer's is horrifying and it is haunting, long after it takes its victims from their loved ones.
What is most haunting, as I think of dementia patients in facilities during the COVID-19 crisis, is how scared my mom had become.
The crisis can be especially cruel to those with dementia. Many reside in facilities, unable to see their loved ones—lonely and unable to process these rapid changes. In these challenging times, the tools and resources provided by the Alzheimer’s Association are critical. Unfortunately, as a non-profit, they are facing serious financial constraints.
