We are walking for my dad, our husband, our grandfather, uncle, brother, son, our friend. Papa Joe or ‘Big Guy’ as he’s most well-known was diagnosed in February 2017. While our journey may seem short in terms of numbers of months and years, it feels quite long. As caregivers and friends we all are well aware of the long minutes that can turn into long hours, into long days, weeks and months. We’ve all seen firsthand what this disease does to an individual and their family unit.
We’re walking for and with him, but we’re also walking for others. Families, husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters.... Participating in this walk and volunteering on the planning committee has allowed our family to do our own small part in helping to raise awareness and provide support for those affected by this horrible disease.
Only together – and by combining our efforts – can we take our first steps in the right direction.
