I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Imagine waking up and not remembering the ones you love. Not remembering all the great memories you’ve had over the years. Or imagine walking into your loved one, tears filling their eyes because they cannot remember your name. This is happening to my Grandma. This is happening to millions of people everywhere, all the time.
Caring and full of love describes my Grandmother, Mary Lea, perfectly. Grandma Sass raised 5 children as a single parent. She worked hard for many years at Pulaski Memorial helping individuals every day. She spent all her holidays being sure to make them special for her children/grandchildren. Although she saved EVERY card, colored picture, school pictures, and homemade gifts from her children and grandchildren, this wasn’t enough to help her personal battle with Alzheimer’s.
It is a struggle to watch someone with so much heart, desire to care for others, and hardworking for many many years become upset because she feels useless due to her disease. No one should feel the way she feels. Memories are a wonderful gift. You hold them close. Nothing should ever have the power to take those away.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
