About 10 years ago our family began the dementia journey trying to determine if mom got the "family disease". After years of cognitive decline diagnosis, mom was finally diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2014.
Mom is still incredibly bubbly and social, often hugging strangers, but we know the light has gone out for her and she is just "not mom"! Some days she knows me and other days I'm her good friend from way back. If not her daughter, I'll settle for being her good friend. Our family goal is to keep her as safe, comfortable and happy as possible as we begin the journey of determining if a memory care facility is best for her.
I walk for my mom, because damn it, she was a damn good mom and I miss her!
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
