Our Mom was home. Every Holiday was at the house with the family. Birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, all were a reason for mom to gather us all. Mom did everything with a song and a dance. She was a guiding star of our universe and our safe space where we were always welcome.
Now there are no more songs on her lips. She hasn't spoken in over a year. There is no more dance to her steps. There are no more steps. She's been in a wheelchair for almost 2 years. Now we try to be her link to home. We can no longer talk with her, so we talk to her and around her. We sing to her. And sometimes we dance. We have no idea if she understands or even knows who we are anymore, but as long as she doesn't cry, we will keep it up.
We know how this will end. She is giving us time to come to terms with the horrible eventuality of this disease. We walk to honor our mother, and in the hope that what we do now might just save someone else's mom.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Thank you for joining the fight. This will be our 5th walk and my 2nd year volunteering on the Walk Committee - this year as Co-Chair of the 2020 Naperville Walk To End ALZ. Please help me make this walk a huge success. Do it FourFran. #ALZIn2020 #ENDALZ it
