As many of you know, my Mom continues her daily fight with Alzheimer’s and this year, my Atlanta family joins the Northern Kentucky “Team Grammy Stephens” in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
Our hearts were broken when Grammy was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2009. The cruel realities of this disease were more evident each passing month as it robbed Mom of her many passions and talents. Mom was an insatiable reader, incredible cook and the most gracious hostess on the planet. She loved to compete and was always the MVP at Trivial Pursuit. As a gifted artist, her talents and love were demonstrated through the beautiful needlepoint, quilts and ceramics she made for family and friends and the dozens of intricate baby blankets for her grandchildren. Her energy in “doing for others” was endless.
Since the diagnosis 10 years ago, my Dad, “Papa Doc” Stephens has been by her side literally every day, caring for her every need in their home. Each day he feeds her, dresses her, talks to her and tells her she’s beautiful. Our family has never seen a more inspiring example of true, enduring love. He has managed to prevent this disease from stealing her true essence shown through her occasional giggles and smiles (for which we are so grateful).
Please help us in our efforts to find a cure to this dreadful disease!
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
