I've been asked by several people why I participate in the Alzheimer's Walk. The reason goes back many years to 1970 when my grandmother was diagnosed with dementia. She didn't have Alzheimer's but Vascular dementia. She was an RN and had helped people her entire life. It was interesting to me, as a 19 year old, that this gentle nurse who devoted a lot of her career to taking care of the elderly seemed lost. To discover what was going with her became my mission and my career goal. Fifty years later I'm still committed to working with the older population and family caregivers who face the many challenges of caring for someone with dementia.
I walk to lift up the science around dementia hoping that one day, hopefully in my lifetime, a cure will be found.
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
