My junior year of high school, my Mawmaw passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. She and my family witnessed her deteriorate in slow motion. Though she was strong and positive until literally her last day (She was planning a vacation!), I know that she was hurting. The calm, sound mind she had always possessed was fading. She eventually lost the ability to do simple tasks she enjoyed like cooking or remembering her youngest grandchildren. Though I know she is always with me, she was taken all too soon. I have the hope that eventually, and with your help, we can save families in the future from watching their loved ones fade away.
I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 14 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
