I'm walking with my students and FCCLA Members to help reclaim the future for millions. By participating in the 2016 Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support. As many of you know, I lost my mom to Alzheimer's in May 2006. Many of you were there for all or part of that journey; watching my vibrant, fun loving mom progress through this disease is the hardest thing we've ever endured. In the hope that other families will never have to go through this, we have titled our quest this year "Our Finish Line is a Cure".
On campus our FCCLA Chapter members will lead our student body in promoting Alzheimer's Awareness, educating our peers and raising funds to support the local Alzheimer's Association and local caregivers. The next two weeks will be full of Alzheimer's Awareness activities at Winter Haven High School including our "Penny for your Thoughts" campaign, Forget-Me-Not flowers, purple bracelets, and educational broadcasts via BDTV.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining our movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here. We can't reach our goal without you, please help us by spreading the word and asking others to join our team. Remember "Our Finish Line is a Cure".
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
