I put together some of my favorite pictures of Skip and me over the years. He has been a resident at the Baldomore Lopez State Veteran's Nursing Home due to Alzheimer's and Frontotemporal degeneration (FTD) dementia since March 2015.
Our journey began in 2003 with a diagnosis of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and slowly progressed until the time came that I could no longer care for him by myself at home.
Currently Skip is in a wheelchair full time and needs full care including being fed his meals. The last time I was able to be with Skip was March 12, 2020 due to COVID-19. This last six months have been very difficult, and hopefully very soon they will work out a plan so that we can once again visit in person. I have been having door visits and Skype but they are not like being there in person. The blessing has been that Skip has been free from any virus and continues to be healthy.
This is my sixth year participating in the Walk to end Alzheimer's and I am excited to once again be walking, but this year will be different. I will be walking in my neighborhood with friends and family who want to join me. I set a goal of $2,500 this year and currently have raised $500.00 I am asking all my facebook friends, family and anyone who reads this to please help and make a donation. Any amount works and it all adds up in the end.
I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Blessings to each and everyone of you,
Mary Anne and Skip Upham
