Growing up, my grandmother was my hero and my best friend. A public school teacher by trade, she taught me much of what I know today, such as a love for books and how to tie my shoes. But most of all, she taught me to do everything in my power to help those in need.
When my grandmother was first diagnosed with dementia, I didn't think there was anything I could do to help her. I didn't think there was any hope. There are no words that can convey what it felt like when I heard my grandmother ask my grandfather "Who is Aaron?". I was paralyzed in a sea of confusion and fear.
But then, I found the Alzheimer's Association. I found hope. The Alzheimer's Association is leading the fight to end this disease through funding cutting edge research, advocating for those with dementia and their families on Capitol Hill, and driving education and awareness campaigns in our communities at large.
Since I discovered, the Alzheimer's Association, I have been able to live up to what my grandmother taught me- to help those in need.
