Once again, Matt and I formed a team to walk 3 miles in DC at the tbd Alzheimer’s walk, honoring John Malatesta (Matt’s Dad). Due to scheduling conflicts, Matt & I are not able to walk on the mall this year. We hope our previous teammates will keep up the tradition and head to DC for the walk.
John passed away in August 2016, just two days after his 92nd birthday. He would have been 95 this year. The years continue to be difficult for us, and especially for Matt's Mom - Rose Marie. This is the plaque that we placed on the wall at the DC ALZ headquarters in Feb 2017. We were able to leave this permanent reminder thanks to your generous support of $9000, and we greatly appreciate everything everyone contributed to us for the past several years.
In the past, we've averaged around $4000 per year, and would like to see that total again. The donations are open until December 31, 2019.
Rose Marie will write her own story, so please read her perspective on her home page. We hope our neighbor's will join us again, and will write their story. We are truly grateful for their continued support .
Right before his 90th birthday we gave John a book of pictures we gathered of his past 90 years, and he showed it to us every time we visited. We loved that he read it very often, as it was a new experience for him every time the book was opened. Also, his wife Rose Marie reconfigured his picture albums from his life prior to his marriage in 1967. These albums include his World War II photos and subsequent 70th Tank Battalion reunion photos. John may not have remembered the name of the current President, but that didn't stop him from enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
Big Band Music was his favorite, as was watching old movies such as Gone with the Wind. The members of the 70th Tank Battalion family miss watching John and Rose Marie dance every year at the reunions. We will, once again, attend the 70th Annual Reunion of the 70th Tank Battalion Association this September--WOW!! 70 years!
If you would like to join us on our walk, we would love to have you--please be sure to register via our team page. We look forward to seeing you there! In either case, we would truly appreciate your support through a donation.
