Grandpa Ray had Parkinson's and Dementia. One of my last visits with Grandpa Ray, he didn't know who I was. After several minutes of him looking scared and not knowing who I was, he remembered that my sons took care of his lawn ("Are the boys still doing a good job on my lawn still?"). Then he remembered my ex husband ("Is Steve still playing golf?). Eventually that led to me...("Are you still taking pictures?" I always have a camera at family functions and he used to give me a hard time about taking his picture). It broke my heart that day and I cried after I left. This wasn't long before he passed away, June of 2012 and I walk in his honor.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
