My wife Grace has been my companion, my lover, my teacher, my guide for 46 years. Even after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for at least twelve years, she still inspires me with her courage, humor, and love. For Grace and me, as it is for many others, this has been and will continue to be a very arduous journey, a journey that we had not anticipated and that we were totally unprepared for. Neither of us expected to spend these years of our lives in this situation, but it is not at all uncommon.
When AD began to seriously take its toll on Grace, I needed help; I did not know how I could most effectively and compassionately help the woman I love so much. Grace and I have received tremendous support from our family, from so many friends, and from the Alzheimer’s support groups that I have attended for eight years. In addition to being the largest not-for-profit source of funding for Alzheimer’s research, the Alzheimer’s Association provides critical support to hundreds of thousands, if not millions of care givers, family members, and friends of those afflicted with this horrible disease.
I encourage you to support the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s in any manner that you can.
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
