Most people I know, know that my family has been hit very hard by this disease, we lost two of my relatives to this disease and my mother has been struggling with it for the past 4 years. It's something that people try not to think about and that few understand.
It's more than just a disease that takes away someone's memories or causes them to become easily disoriented, it is a disease that destroys the nerve connections of the brain, and as it gets worse it limits the brain's ability to function and even perform simple tasks like swallowing or movement decline. It is fatal not in that you have it until you pass, it is fatal in that it causes death.
It doesn't kill through neglect or accident it is a progressive illness that takes the mind AND body. There are thousands of studies working to fight, understand and stop the progression of Alzheimer's but the brain is a thing we barely understand and it takes immense resources.
I refuse to give up hope on progress and I hope that in some small way that I can contribute so that myself and the rest of my family can have hope for the future.
If you can help me in this difficult time it would mean the world to me and I have been so touched and grateful for what people have already donated that I can't say how much it means.
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's!
