I'm helping to lead the way to "Alzheimer's first survivor" by participating in the Alzheimer's Association's Walk to End Alzheimer's. Currently more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease!
I am walking in memory of my mom, Delia Witter who suffered the debilitating affects of this hideous disease for 13 years. As her outgoing and loving personality gradually "slipped away", it was torture for my dad to see his beloved wife changing before his eyes. The only thing he could do was try to understand and care for her immediate needs and safety! Our entire family suffered the sadness of losing her bit by bit while adjusting and readjusting to the needs of each stage she was going through.
I am also walking to honor my niece's best friend's mother who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease. I've joined their team "ALZ about Diane" to add my support. It is heart wrenching the see her family going through what my family went through so many years ago.
We need to find a cure and discover prevention tactics that will eliminate the threat of Alzheimer's disease once and for all! Fund raising together, we can help end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
