I am walking and helping to raise funds towards the CURE to end Alzheimer's!!!
Like most misfortunes in life, you never truly know how it affects an individuals life until it hits close to home. Living with Alzheimer's is difficult not only for the individuals diagnosed with it but for the caregivers, families, and friends as well. Each day that progresses without a cure becomes a new challenge that may bring about new obstacles that become harder and harder to cope with. Knowing that the medications of today will eventually become ineffective as the disease progresses drives our passion for finally finding a cure! Watching our loved one lose a little bit more of the person they once were is heartbreaking. One day they will cease to remember who you are, who they are; they will no longer have memories of even the most important events of their lives no matter how badly you want them recall. Eventually it becomes more than just forgetting a birthday; it becomes not knowing that you need to eat or how to feed yourself, that you need to go to the bathroom or where you need to go, not knowing how to get home...when you're standing in your living room. This is more than just finding a cure, it's about saving the ones we love!
Aside from experiencing my father-in-law facing this daily battle with Alzheimer's, in the past I participated in a simulation of what it was like living with Alzheimer's. Even with me being a very competent individual, I often felt silly and found it very difficult, and at times a little frustrating, to follow the simple tasks I was faced with. I was not only mentally uncomfortable but was physically uncomfortable as well. Needless to say, I did not complete my tasks 100%. At the end of the experience, I was able to remove my restraints and go back to living a "normal" life. Someone living with Alzheimer's is forever imprisoned and held captive by this dreadful nightmare. There's no escaping. We NEED a cure! Please help us get the funds needed to carry out the necessary research to find a cure to combat this disease!!! Anything that you contribute, time, money, prayers, is GREATLY appreciated!!!
