I never dreamed I would be walking to honor 2 living members of my family, my mom and her brother and in memory of their sister, my aunt, but here I am. My Mom was diagnosed last year as was her brother and their sister was diagnosed about 10-15 years ago and gained her heavenly reward in December. I have watched as precious memories are being robbed from these precious family members and my heart breaks every time I have to make a decision that, in years past, my mom would have been able to make on her own. I want this dreaded, memory robbing, disease eliminated so that children will no longer have to look their parents in the eyes and tell them "I'm sorry mom/dad but you can no longer drive or I'm sorry mom/dad but you have to leave the familiarity of the home you have lived in for over 60 years and go to a place that can take care of you and keep you safe or remind them that you are their child because they no longer remember you. I'm leading the way to helping cure Alzheimer's and be a part of celebrating the first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
