To whom it may concern,
I hope that you are having a lovely day thus far. I am writing you this letter in regards to my sorority’s main philanthropy, the Alzheimer’s Foundation. This specific philanthropy is near and dear to my heart for one special reason, my Grandmother, Pauline “Poddy” Lucas. Which is why every year, around this time, I like to reach out to people and share my personal story of how this horrible disease took my ever so precious grandmother away from me.
Pauline “Poddy” Lucas was a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. Her life was truly lived to the fullest. She went to Texas Christian University where she was loved by all who came in contact by her, which is probably why she won Homecoming Queen. During her time spent at college she met my Papa, Jim “Luke” Lucas (who passed away earlier this year in January). These two were the definition of ‘true love’. They eventually married, traveled around the world, then settled down in Midland, Texas. In a span of their 60+ years together, the two had four sons who filled holidays with wives that brought the bright smiles as well as laughter from grandchildren. I, Madelyn Lucas, am lucky enough to be the last of these many grandkids, and able to witness the last eleven years of her life before she passed in 2009.
After joining Sigma Kappa sorority, these past three years, I have made it my mission, standing side by side my sorority sisters, to make Alzheimer’s a distant memory and hopefully find an end to such a cruel disease. Especially witnessing it as a young girl and now a young adult, I can truly say that it is difficult watching a loved one slowly disappear, but physically still be there. That is why on October 19h, Sigma Kappa and I will be walking with friends, family, as well as our local Alzheimer’s home to represent our goal to stop this disease. This will be my third year walking and hopefully making both of my Grandmother proud. Which is why I am asking you to please donate the most amount of money possible to the link below in honor of them and to help all those impacted by Alzheimer’s.
Thank you so much for your time.
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
