I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
My awareness of this horrible disease came years ago, when my grandfather was diagnosed. It eventually killed him, but only after he had lost the ability to do anything, and he'd forgotten everyone he loved.
It has now been a little over a year since we placed his daughter, my Mom, in a memory care unit. She continues to decline, of course. The photo to the right is to show you the horrible reality of the disease.
Like so many others whose family members already have Alzheimer's, I am not only living with the fact that a person I dearly love is slowly slipping away, but wondering when it will start for me. Every time I forget something, I worry...
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Help me make it stop. Together, we can make Alzheimer's a memory.
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's!
