Dear Friends and Family,
On May 18 Sherry's mom passed away with Alzheimer dementia. Over the last 7 years Sherry was her primary caregiver. Collectively, we watched the decline, there were good days and bad days. It was frustrating and confusing, as her mom couldn't complete everyday tasks and her cognitive skills deteriorated. My father suffered from the same disease his journey was long and challenging for my mother, me and my siblings. He passed away in 2016. Caregiving is exhausting and places a real burden on the family. Finding a cure is paramount.
Some alarming facts: Alzheimers is the 6th leading cause of death in the US, every 65 seconds someone develops the disease and over 6M Americans are living with it today. It is estimated that in 2019 Alzheimer and other dementias will cost the health care system around $290 Billion.
As you know I have served on the Greater Cincinnati ALZ board for 4 years, this year I have taken on the task as campaign chairmen for the 2019 Cincinnati Tri-State WALK to ENDALZ. The Cincinnati WALK has raised over $1M each of the last three years making it one of the top ten in the Nation. This year we have established a goal of $1.3M. It will not be easy but as I visit regional companies and people impacted by this disease I feel confident that we will achieve this goal. The passion is real.
Sherry and I are committed to this cause, as a team are trying to do our part by raising $25K this year. Please join our team and help us win this battle and achieve our team goal.
