In 1971 my father died of heart disease. Open heart surgery was new and experimental. He had a valve replacement and bypasses but died in the OR after 11 hours on the heart/lung machine. In 1995 my wife, Hannah, had successful 5-way bypass surgery with less than an hour on the heart/lung machine. Doctors are now replacing heart valves with access through an artery without even doing open-heart surgery. That is progress in the fight against heart disease. That progress did not come without many millions, perhaps billions of dollars in research money.
When Hannah had her heart attack we had hope because there was visible progress in heart disease treatment. When she was diagnosed in 2017 with Alzheimer's we had and continue to have NO hope. Why? Because there has been NO progress in treating Alzheimer's. If you are diagnosed with heart disease, cancer, AIDS and many other diseases that were devastating in years past there are now treatments and hope. There is hope because billions have been dedicated to research for treatment and cures for these diseases. Although Alzheimer's is the #6 cause of death in the U.S. and affects millions of people and many more millions of caregivers it is barely on the radar of the general public. Research money is way down the list compared to heart and cancer research money.
You can help bring hope to the millions who now are affected by Alzheimer's and those future millions that will be affected. Perhaps even yourself or a loved one. Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make your most generous donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. All proceeds go directly to the Alzheimer's Association to further research and provide resources and support to Alzheimer's caregivers.
Our friends and family have been very generous in the past. This year I'm hoping we can meet or exceed my goal of $10,000.00. Every dollar brings us closer to a cure.
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's!
If you live close we would love to have you join us for the walk this year. We have had a great time on previous walks with friends and family. Just click the 'Join My Team' button. Hope to hear from you soon.
