Dear Family and Friends of Rick,
As many of you know Rick has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's/dementia. He is on medications to relieve symptoms. If you call him and haven’t spoken to him in years, his memory and speech may trouble you. It’s often difficult for him to engage in normal conversational exchanges. He is patching over his memory with new versions of dates, events and plans. This is normal. Thank you for not correcting him. That brings on anxiety and irritability. It’s better to say, “That’s interesting,” or “Tell me more.” I can’t monitor everything he says. Your compassion and acceptance will make him less anxious.
Our family will be participating in October for the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Highland at the Walkway over the Hudson. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's! Thank you for your understanding! Peace
